Voici une reprise des activités de la USAAF, pendant la bataille dans les Ardennes.

Intéressant est surtout, le nombre de jours que la USAAF n'as pas pu faire des missions.

Bad weather grounds bmrs. Ftrs fly armed rcn, hit rail tgts and bridges, and spt US 2d and 99th Inf Divs in Monschau Forest, 8th Inf Div in Bergstein area, 78th Inf Div in Simmerath-Kesternich area, and XII and XX Corps around Habkirchen and Saarlautern.

300-plus A-20's, A-26's, and B-26's hit defended positions, camp area, and oil storage at Heimbach, Wollseifen, Harperscheid, Schonau, Ruthen, and Dorsel. Ftrs escort 9th bomb Div, hit supply and ammo dumps and other tgts during bombing attacks and armed rcn, and spt US 2d and 99th Inf Divs in area of Westwall fortifications, 78th Div at Kesternich, and 8th Inf and 5th Armd Div N of Kesternich. Ftrs spt XX and XII Corps in Dillingen-Saarlautern area and at Habkirchen and heights along Blies R.

Bad weather cancels 9th Bomb Div combat operations. Ftrs escort RAF, fly night patrol and intercept missions, and spt US First Army elements in Ardennes as German FM von Rundstedt begins allout counteroffensive, and XII and XX Corps at Saarlautern bridgehead and in Saint-Avold-Saarbrucken area where news of Ardennes counteroffensive cancels XII Corps plans for assault on Westwall.

Ninth AF

Weather prevents bmr operations. Over 1,000 ftrs fly armed rcn, defensive patrols, and attacks on bridges and gun positions. IX and XIX TACs also spt ground forces (8th, 28th, 78th, 99th, and 106th Inf Divs, 5th Armd Div, V, VII, VIII, XII, and XX Corps) against counteroffensive in the Ardennes and in battle to hold Saarlautern bridgehead.

Ninth AF

160-plus A-26's, A-20's, and B-26's hit defended positions at Harperscheid, Hellenthal, Blumenthal, Dreiborn, and Herhahn. Ftrs fly sweeps and armed rcn over W Germany (claiming over 40 enemy airplanes downed plus hitting numerous ground tgts) and spt US 2d, 4th, 28th, and 106th Inf Divs W of Butgenbach, W of Trier, SE of Clervaux, and SE of Saint-Vith, and XII Corps at Niedergailbach. IX TAC hits Panzer units spearheading Bulge.

All administrative sections and extra operational equipment of XXIX TAC are moved from Maastricht to Saint-Trond to avert transportation problems should XXIX TAC be subsequently forced into a hasty withdrawal. Weather grounds bmrs. Ftrs fly armed rcn in W Germany, escort RAF Lancasters, fly patrols from Belgium to the Rhine, spt US 1st, 2d, 99th, and 106th Inf Divs, and 7th Armd Div (N and E of Malmedy and SE and SW of Saint-Vith), and fly cover for US Twelfth Army troops and XII Corps near Verdun and Saint-Avold.

Bad weather prevents all combat operations, except night intruder mission by 2 ftrs.

Ninth AF

IX and XXIX TACs are transferred from Ninth AF to British Second Tac AF control to operate against the N line of the Bulge. XIX TAC flies armed weather and intruder rcn in SaarbruckenTrier area. Weather grounds all operations.

12/22/44

Ninth AF

3 ftr gps of IX TAC are transferred to XIX TAC to concentrate air power for cooperation with US Third Army to which main effort against the Bulge has been assigned. The gps return to control of IX TAC on 25 Dec. Ftrs fly a few strafing, weather rcn, intruder patrol, and alert missions. Bad weather cancels all other missions.

Around 500 B-26's and A-20's attack rail bridges, comm tgts, villages, rail junction and T/Os in Germany losing 31 bmrs. Ftrs fly bmr escort, armed rcn, and patrols (claiming over 100 aircraft downed and 3 A/Fs bombed), and spt ground forces between Werbomont and Butgenbach along N battleline of Bulge and US III, VIII, and XII Corps forces along S battleline of the Bulge.

12/24/44

Ninth AF

276 MBs and LBs hit rail bridges and comm centers in W Germany. Ftrs escort 9th Bomb Div, fly armed rcn, and spt US III, VIII, and XII Corps along S battleline of the Bulge, stretching from Echternach to area NW of Neufchateau, as 4th Armd Div reaches enemy's ring around





12/25/44

Ninth AF

Nearly 650 MBs and LBs hit rail and road bridges, comm centers and T/Os in W Germany and breakthrough area. Ftrs, including an Eighth AF gp loaned to Ninth, escort 9th Bomb Div, fly patrols and armed rcn, and spt US III, VIII, and XII Corps along S battleline of enemy salient from Echternach to NW of Neufchateau.

9th Bomb Div attacks road junctions, rail bridges, rail head, comm and casual tgts in breakthrough area as enemy's westward drive ends short of the Maas R. Ftrs fly escort, armed rcn, sweeps, and spt US III and VIII Corps S of Bastogne, as US 4th Armd Div breaks

Weather forces recall and cancellation of 9th Bomb Div and IX TAC missions. XXIX TAC flies armed rcn over battle area and around Wallersheim and XIX TAC covers large areas of France, Belgium, and Germany hitting numerous ground tgts and supports US III, VIII, and XII Corps in Saint-Hubert, Bastogne and Diekirch areas.

GAF launches attack of 700-800 airplanes against Ninth AF and Allied A/Fs, mainly in Brussels and Eindhoven areas, and to a lesser degree in Metz area. 127 operational Allied aircraft are destroyed. Allied ftrs claim 160 air victories while AA claims 300. 190 A-20's, A-26's, and B-26's hit rail bridges, comm centers, road junction, a cmd post, and HQ, all in Belgium and Germany. Ftrs escort 9th Bomb Div and Eighth AF bmrs, fly patrols, sweeps, and armed rcn (claiming 39 air victories and numerous ground tgts destroyed) and spt US III, VII, and XII Corps between Saint-Hubert and the Mosel R.

135 A-20's, A-26's, and B-26's hit rail bridges and comm centers in Belgium and Germany. Ftrs escort 9th Bomb Div, fly patrols, sweeps, and armed rcn and spt US III and VIII Corps in Bastogne area and XII Corps S of Clerf R and W of the Sauer R.

15 B-26's bomb Rinnthal rail bridge with aim of isolating 3 enemy armd divs in Landau area. XXIX TAC ftrs escort the Mbs. Weather prevents other operations.

Over 30 B-26's sent against comm center and road bridge abort due to weather. XIX TAC escorts MBs, flies patrols, attacks bridges and other tgts and supports US III, VIII, XII, and XX Corps in Saint-Hubert-Bastogne-Wiltz area, in Diekirch and Echternach area and points to the SE.

95 9th Bomb Div bmrs strike road and rail bridges at Dasburg, Steinebruck, and Simmern to disrupt enemy movements. Ftrs escort 9th Bomb Div, Eighth AF, and RAF bmrs, fly armed rcn and patrols, and bomb and strafe numerous ground tgts. IX TAC supports US VII Corps near Houffalize, XIX TAC supports US III, VIII, XII, and XX Corps elements in Saint-Hubert-Bastogne-Wiltz areas and points E and S near Clerf and Mosel Rivers.

16 9th Bomb Div bmrs hit Simmern bridge to help thwart movement in Trier area. XIX TAC escorts MBs, flies armed rcn and patrols, and supports US III and VIII Corps in Houffalize-Bastogne-Wiltz areas.

311 A-20's, A-26's, and B-26's hit road and rail bridges, comm centers, motor transport repair center, and other tgts in Germany. Ftrs escort 9th Bomb Div and Eighth AF HBs, fly armed rcn and defensive patrols, and spt US First Army elements along battleline NE of Houffalize, and III Corps along battleline SE of Houffalize.

Weather cancels all bmr operations and limits ftrs. XIX TAC flies night patrol while IX TAC flies leaflet mission and patrols XIX Corps area around Hurtgen Forest.

Ninth AF

IX TAC returns to operational control of Ninth AF (from Second Tac AF) as US First Army returns from 21st Army Gp to 12th Army Gp. IX TAC HQ (Rear) returns to Verviers from Charleroi. Weather prevents all Ninth AF operations except for alert flights by 11 ftrs of IX and XXIX TACs.

27 B-26's bomb Euskirchen rail bridge to interdict rail trafflc SW from Euskirchen, much of which comes from Cologne and Bonn. The 3 TACs fly armed rcn, alert flights, and patrols. XIX TAC supports US Third Army elements from S of Saint-Vith to W of Saarlautern.

C'est tiré des documents d'époque.. ce serait inutil de les taduire...
